Participatory Budgeting in FULL SWING

11/26/12

By Councilmembers Stephanie Gomes, Marti Brown, Bob Sampayan

Vallejo's groundbreaking ParticipatoryBudgeting (PB) process is in full swing -- the community's embracing of this new process has been exciting!

After completing seven of nine neighborhood assemblies, we couldn't be more happy with your tremendous support and creative ideas in proposing over 250 project ideas for spending approximately $3.2 million of your Measure B sales tax dollars.

Your projects will make our community stronger and safer, and our city a better place to live.

As we enter the final stages of brainstorming project ideas, we want to reiterate our support for PB Vallejo and our intention to support this deliberative Democratic process from start to finish. We appreciate the time and effort that many of you are giving to this process and will continue to dedicate. We value not only your ideas and participation in the PB process, but also your ongoing dedication and commitment to making Vallejo a better place to live that reflects our collective values for building a healthy community and a high quality of life.

We encourage you to attend the one remaining general public PB assembly at the Glen Cove Elementary School o
n November 29. But if you can't make that assembly, please go online and contribute your ideas at pbvallejo.org before December 9, 2012. After that, we hope you'll sign up to be a Budget Delegate and continue to research and vet the project ideas that were generated by your fellow Vallejoans.

Please stay engaged as we prepare for your vote on PB projects in May, 2013, and help make history as the first city-wide Participatory Budgeting process in the United States.

Thank you.
