3/8/13 -- Hey Guys. By now most of you know that Wal-Mart is opening a "Neighborhood Market" store in the old Mervyn's location on Sonoma Blvd.
So, here's your chance to sound off...love it, hate it...union busting China patronizing good job killing retail megalith...or just what we need at discount prices? Great job opportunities for Vallejo...or rape of the proletariat?
Here's a great little video tribute from songwriter Jessica Frech with real pictures of Wal-Mart shoppers to help you reach an informed opinion!
3/7/13 -- Vallejo fire and safety personnel have had a busy week. Here is video from the freon compressor leak and explosion at the Island Pacific Supermarket earlier today. There were no injuries; however, hazmat crews were called in and market remained closed for several hours.
3/5/13 -- 2:30 PM -- Shortly after 11 AM Vallejo firefighters responded to a fire at Blue Rock Springs Golf Course engulfing a metal shed housing privately owned golf carts. According to witnesses, golfers were trying to extract their carts from the side of the building not yet totally involved when safety personnel arrived. They were promptly told to get away from the building by firefighters. In addition to the smoke and fire, a downed power line presented the risk of electrocution. According to firefighters on the scene, the two alarm blaze started inside the structure. The cause is unknown at this time pending investigation.
On March 1 the Times-Herald reported that two more prosecutions of Vallejo cannabis dispensaries were dismissed for lack of proof. That’s Vallejo 0, Dispensaries 4, with a total of four dismissals since the city began its campaign to rid Vallejo of this evil weed. No one is surprised by this outcome other than the Vallejo government and police force; they don’t have a clue; never did.
I am asking the council to provide figures on what these misadventures cost us. Add it up:
This past Tuesday VIB was invited, along with parents of prospective students, to take a tour of the Vallejo Charter School. The school is located at 432 Del Sur St. – formerly the Davidson Elementary School Campus and takes students from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
The Vallejo Charter School (VCS) is one of several charter school options in Vallejo. VCS operates within the Vallejo Unified School District and is subject to the district's administrative input, has the same employee unions and receives part of it's funding through the district. Other charter schools are independent and raise their own funds independently. The campus of VCS is small as is the overall enrollment and class size. There are only two classes per grade with a focus on small classes and quality instruction.
