We are Pro-Union
Yes, its true. It would be hard to be opposed to the idea of protecting workers' rights. We even have Union Members in our staff. On a personal note, yours truly has never stood in opposition to the policies or practices of a Union. This is the first time ever.
Many times City workers and their Unions have given when The City has asked them to. We salute them.
The Public Safety Unions are the exception. They have us all in such a fierce grip both financially and in terms of political influence that one can only conclude they have lost all sight of reason or compromise. I do not say this lightly. But, the more I have learned about the Public Safety Unions the more this conclusion has been reinforced.
In fact, the rank and file City workers who are members of the IBEW have compromised with the City before. They have taken fallout generated by the stubborn and litigious stance of IAFF.(International Association of Fire Fighters)
Perhaps a change in IAFF leadership would bring a new era of reasonable behavior to this whole thing. We want to see an end to obscene and unfair salaries, frivolous lawsuits that cost The City a fortune, arbitration being used as a threat and a weapon, and the outright purchase of political candidates.
So, you see, the Public Safety Unions have taken a lifelong Union supporter and made something else.
I am still Pro-Union. This is the only exception. They have gone too far.
I hope you will look at this issue in a reasonable, calm and informed way when you Vote on November 6. Blindly voting the Union ticket will result in disaster.
And I hope you better understand our dislike of having to take the position we have.
