I have not been a great fan of Joanne Schively over the years; too tunnel vision and critical without solutions from what I could see while she sat on council, and did not like her campaign for mayor. But, she her answer tonight about the Casino was one of the best I have heard about that issue ever. I did not know the idea has been around since 1996, or that even with the idea, the land would have to be "locked" up while the city and/or Native American Indian Tribe council/developer moved the process through the State, which could take a decade or more, without any guarantees that a
casino would be built after decades of waiting.

The waiting game is not what Vallejo needs. We have 1 developer for the Waterfront who has a contract without any performance requirements, and who has had the contract since the late 1990s with nothing but a lone State Farm building which closes up at night and does nothing to bring other business or people to the waterfront. We have been waiting over 15 years for the Waterfront. Do we really want to wait another 15 for the north end of MI?

NO.. Let's get these moving NOW with ideas and developments that could be completed within a few
years, not decades.

Interesting questions, but I felt as if there was a specific selection of what question/topic was asked of a specific candidate. I'm not a fan of that format; I like a question, and then asked in a random order.

I'm dismayed about Dew. She keeps introducing herself as living in the "area" for 25 years, but she has not lived in Vallejo for 25 year. She offices in Benicia, though as a real estate agent, she has the option to office in Vallejo. SHe sends her daughter to Benicia schools and coaches soccer in Benicia. All of her activities, but for chamber, are in Benicia. She lived
in Walnut Creek before Vallejo. I just don't like the dishonesty through vagueness and omission.

I don't know much about Liat, and did not know if she had broad enough knowledge outside of GVRD or skills, but have been impressed with her knowledge of what council has voted on and decided over the last couple of years, and her community involvement, and knowledge of our police chief's integration of ideas and proposals from the community and the Public Safety commission.

Interesting group of candidates.

I almost felt sorry for Malapo. Seriously what is he doing up there? Padding his unemployment application?

Yes quite a few one act dog and pony shows . I can see the "trio of truth" winning a crushing victory , sending a clear message to the PAC'S and their coin operated Canidates .

avatar What an absolute embarrassment for Vallejo. Candidates talking about the so called accomplishments of long dead relatives, others embellishing degrees like Hermie Sunga did, and offering up generalities about their priorities. How could any honest candidate put public safety as a top priority without a roadmap to pay for it.....shame shame if you think our school board is full of incompetent and self serving idiots, look no further than the so called pro safety, pro revenue jokers asking for our vote.
No to the Hate Slate   |September.15.2013
@Anonymius. It sounds more like you're scared of Liat's intelligence and background. With Katy and Joanne, it kinda makes "the hate slate" look pretty lame in comparison.

btw if you don't like Liat because she's a "progressive Democrat", you might want to ask the hate slate who endorsed them. Yeah, the Democratic Central Committee. My oh my, how will you vote now that you can't vote the hate slate?

@ Doug absolutely brilliant !! an app for navigating local politics . Just think of the market place !!! buy it now for $ 29.95 and receive a free bottle of shark repellent ya could make a fortune .

Staff work for staff for them to do anything about the homeless situation would require multi million dollar grants
and a 18 million dollar facility !!
I agree about GVRD and Liat , GVRD has the steel and accountability to get things done for the Community they serve
"what a novel concept" their board Members should be lauded ...
Doug   |September.15.2013
As a steward of my watershed and my community i am fortunate to have a Media Empire to help me share my concerns. We are all fortunate to have a service like this provided for us.

Candidate statements are just that. I prefer to have a history of involvement i can look back on and determine what a candidate has done in the past. Liat has that history! GVRD doesn't know what it means to be in the red. Liat and Co. oversee a whole lot more than parks. They manage community recreation, after school programs, etc, etc. Liat knows how to serve a community!
Vallejo government/staff are shark
infested waters, if its not part of their diet, ya better get out of the water! It doesn't matter if you want a Port or more Police, what matters is how you get there! There is no app to help you navigate local politics!

As for the Homeless topic, what the candidates fail to mention is that we need to take greater ownership of this problem. As long as we expect others to provide the solutions than we will keep skating the issues. It is a tough topic for a candidate to comment on, they don't know much about it, nor do our own City Staff. They don't want to be accountable for this problem.
This is that "shark" attitude i referred to. Im tired of the begging at storefronts and on the roadway mediums, the camps in our watersheds. Yes, the County needs to be leveraged, but until city staff are willing to do their part, don't expect the County to come rescue us!

TY for the video!

liat believes in redistribution of wealth schemes? really? because i've known her over fifteen years and i've never even heard her discuss that topic. where did you get this information? topix? your perverse imagination? give me one source for your allegation. i'll wait.
donations for Marc!   |September.15.2013
My god, what would we do without you? You provide such a great service to Vallejo! I did get a chuckle, though, out of the VIB Media Empire line. All empires have to start somewhere, I guess!

BTW, I finally noticed the donate button on the home page. Since I have long said that you should encourage volunteer subscriptions, I followed through on my own advice. The TH asks $128/yr, and your service is far more valuable!

I don't like Lait's politics or her priorities. I believe she and her fellow GVRD board members have done a poor job of park management. Lait is also a big believer in social welfare programs and redistribution of wealth schemes.

She's a progressive democrat, nuff said.

Vote NO on Lait.

Great coverage Marc thanks # 10,000 for Your contribution towards our Democrassy

Good forum , well done but as always too short . The Vib Candidate interviews will
no doubt fill in the gaps as they did last Election . "Who needs Charlie Rose"

I detected an underlying tone of discontent with the ROI from County Government . As Solano County's largest City We should expect Our fair share of
the services that We PAY for not just an influx of parolees and lip service .
RE : the Homeless issue Katy was spot on and succinct , obviously well studied and informed, Katy explained it very
well
as She laid out the facts . Fact # 1 County and State are funded for these social welfare services via State and Fed $$ Vallejo is not ! . Fact # 2 Vallejo has no institutional capacity to handle the myriad of social services and public health needs of this diverse population . Very well explained !!
Katy went on to express displeasure with
Fed representation post MI closure I agree with Her completely, We supported the Navy mission for over 150 years and should not have to beg for assistance for transitioning from the military industrial economy to a market driven one . Our
representatives seem to think they are doing Us a big favor by supporting the clean up on MI of the toxic waste "owned" by the Navy while doing very little to assist with economic recovery these last 16 years .

I was also impressed with Liat "I like how she rolls" She is smart, knows Vallejo very well , has done Her homework for over 15 years . Liat did a impressive job of answering the questions displaying an in-depth knowledge of Her Community and superior intelligence . Liat and Katy are formidable contenders for 4 year seats
We will be very well served when they are
elected .

Joane also did well, after all as a three term Council member She has spent years in the Sausage factory .
She shows real commitment to Her Community and just plain fortitude to jump back into the cauldron of local politics . Also impressive was Her institutional knowledge of how things have worked or not worked in Vallejo, this is essential if We are ever to learn from the mistakes of the past, as well as successes ..

All in all an interesting assemblage of Candidates . Most of the others I know not enough to form an opinion at this time, however I must give Anthony Summers the
political "play of the day" award, as he got a leg up on Chris Platzer when He quoted CMA as the second largest producer of degrees in the Mechanical Engineering field Nationally,
Platzer being an alumni "ok so a Deckie"
could have scored this touchdown but Summers picked it off and scored ...
Hope We have some more forums before the election, glossy mailers are superficial
far better to see them in action ..
