CONSEQUENCES
Politically Motivated Action Against Tanner Rattles Touro
2/25/09 By Marc Garman
Last night's politically motivated action to terminate City Manager Joe Tanner's contract has had consequences. The action, voted for by Mayor Osby Davis and councilmembers Hannigan, Wilson, Sunga and Bartee has given Touro MI CEO Bruce Lang, "cause to pause and consider our options going forward."
Tanner has been instrumental in fostering progress with the Cancer Treatment Center proposed for the North end of Mare Island. Apparently, Touro voiced their concerns over the possible termination of Tanner in several letters to Mayor Osby Davis. Touro never received a response. There was also no mention of any correspondence during the council meeting.
The Touro project is the greatest prospect for development in Vallejo at present. If the project is scuttled due to the improper motivations and actions of the five who voted for terminating Tanner's contract it would be a tragedy. Councilmembers Gomes and Schivley opposed terminating Tanner's contract. The letter, to Mayor Osby Davis, speaks for itself. Here it is in its entirety:
