Going Over

When we first printed this cartoon people said we were vulgar. Unfortunately it turns out we were prophetic.  Pictured are Kurt Henke president of IAFF 1186 Firefighters Union and Union Lawyer Alan Davis.(Who recently indicated that his client did not believe the budget deficit was real)

The fact is that the public safety unions have been a major force behind the financial destruction of Vallejo.

The warnings were there on many occasions:

In 1994 with the Citizens' Budget Advisory Committee. This report outlined the structural deficits tied to public safety contracts.

In 2003 Vallejo for Community Planned Renewal warned that the current public safety contracts would push Vallejo millions of dollars into the hole.  The warnings went unheeded.

Now, as the city is flooded with retirement (read: BUY OUT) notices from Police and Fire employees we can honestly say:

The Rats Are Leaving the Ship

Not too long ago, the Fire Union said staffing reductions would result in people dying.  They claimed to have our safety at the very center of their concern. They broke our backs in arbitration. Now that the money is drying up...They're all running like HELL.  Safety be DAMNED.

Greed Has Won And Now People WILL Die

Wake up Vallejo.  Our City Government has been poisoned by Union Money and influence for years.
Once these unions protected the workers from big business. Somewhere along the way they became the FAT CATS IN THE BLACK HATS.  They have become what they were formed to fight.

Just Remember.  These People Do Not Care About Us

They are all running now that the money is gone. Are these what they call Heroes ??

  City Council Meetings:

 Tuesday, February 5th “Team-building”

Tuesday, February 12th Regular Meeting

Wednesday, February 13th Budget Study Session

You might wonder why I am combining all these meetings together.  Partially I’m lazy, and partially because when looking at all three meetings, you see a bigger—but not at all pretty—picture.

Let’s start off with the team-building.  It was “team-building 101” with the requisite psycho-babble emanating from a boring facilitator. And because by law this had to be a public meeting, it became “teambuilding in a fish bowl.” Audience members complained that there should be an opportunity for community participation (fallen on deaf ears). Council members Bartee and Sunga attempted to use the forum as an opportunity to pander to certain concerns residents have been bringing up in the community.  Look what good council members we are.  Councilmember Wilson did not say all that much—but he did mention performance evaluations.  Are they negotiating those with the Firefighters, who currently have NO performance evaluations?

Quotes From the Budget Study Session

             (Echoes of the Impending Disaster)

2/14/08

" THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK" --Erin Hannigan

" THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK"--Hermie Sunga

Yes folks...Erin and Hermie had nothing to say about the budget.  Not one damn peep.  Guess they either know it all or they've been told to "zip it" by you know who.

And now, on to Quotes from People Who Actually Entered Into the Discourse

"There is no money."   Craig Whittom, Assistant City Manager

"The Citizens Deserve to Know."   Councilmember Schivley--re: her request for a public presentation from bankruptcy attorneys

"Bankruptcy is not a panacea."  Mayor Davis

"The public should have the benefit of the information we have." Councilmember Gomes  re: the inadequate information given the public

"You've cut every community program." Deanna Lang  re: the anihilation of funding for community based organizations

"The employees who are eligible to retire have been encouraged to retire." Councilmember Schivley  re: the ongoing mass exodus of Vallejo city employees

HOT LIVE AND SEXY PDF Print

Image     The Daily Scream is Now Live!!!

We at VIB love to see people exchanging ideas.  Some of us even find intelligent discourse sexy!! So, it is with great and ecstatic pride that I am announcing... The Daily Scream is now a live feature.

The standard set so far on The Daily Scream is a high one. I can count the remarks that we have had to eliminate on one hand and still have fingers left over. Let's keep that gold standard.

Just remember, if things devolve and slip into that nasty and unproductive realm we have seen on other blogs...we can flip the switch in about five minutes.

Enjoy the satisfaction of a live experience, but remember we are still monitoring comments.

Keep the great thoughts, ideas and information coming!!
