Anyone notice the shoddy reporting of Rachel Raskin Zhiren in today's T-H?

She calls a robbery yesterday morning on the 700 block of Marin Street a robbery at the ferry building.

That lady needs a map. And she gets paid to report???

I just went to the Horrid website and they shut down the comments on that article. I wonder why? (Maybe a Krackumus attack?)

Peter N. Gordon - hmmm, they recorded hits such as I Go To Pieces and True Love Ways, didn't they?

Mark Twain - I had no idea he came back just for VIB. Isn't he the dude who once said, the coldest winter he ever experienced is summer in Vallejo?

Karl Marx - we all know VIB is left learning.

Fe Khalstirrer - she hangs around the T-H blogs stirring up guano.

Arnel Pineda - last time I checked he's still Journey's front man. Unless Steve Perry came back?

And finally ...

former City Manager of Bell, CA, a VIB member?

Deed is done, I called T-H to not renew my subscription at the $45 price. If they call with a lower offer, fine. If they don't call, that's OK, too.

Tru Citizen:

Cheap? GUILTY! I came to this country with less than $200. I watched my pennies and now, 30 years later, I have a liquid net worth of more than $1 Million, excluding equity in houses I own. You know, those houses that I rent out to Sec 8 tenants.

Picking up distressed property? You betcha. I started when Mare Island shipyard closed, took a hiatus when prices went crazy and resumed buying again in 2008.

$45 is no big
deal, per se, today I paid my Vallejo dog groomer exactly that amount. But if I don't perceive equivalent or higher utility, Lincoln will be sweaty when he gets to leave my tight fist.

Vallejo's Bankruptcy `Failure' Scares Cities Straight Into Cutting Costs

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-12-14/vallejo-s-california-bankruptcy-failure-scares-cities-into-cost-cutting

Felt in Tracy

The Vallejo bankruptcy resonates in Tracy, a city of about 82,000 residents 60 miles east of San Francisco, said Zane Johnston, the finance director.

In the face of a $7.5 million budget gap, the police union agreed this year to cancel remaining raises and boost the retirement age to 55 from 50 for new hires even though its contract wasn
New Subscriber   |December.14.2010
Hey, True Citizen,

Hey what do you want. I renewed my subscription for the TH at the price point that I was willing to pay and the Times Herald was willing to sell at. It is called free enterprise--you know--capitalism! The Free Market i what determines where I spend my dollars. If something is going on in Vallejo that has the right Utility Value, I spend and go for it. Otherwise, I go elsewhere for food entertainment, etc. And, by the way, in the past 12 months I have spent in Vallejo 20K for the following: refrigerator, stove, microwave, clothes washer, clothes dryer, heater, air
conditioner, HD 3D TV with sound system and Ipod docking station----all at our Vallejo Home Depot and Best Buy. You can take your cheap accusation and stick it!!!!
El Cheapo   |December.14.2010
I bought a subscription. I need the paper to line my cat box and it is worth every penny.

The kitties just love to do their doo doo on it.

Thank you Times Herald!!!
Someone Else   |December.14.2010
I took a subscription to the TH when I first moved here 5 years ago. Within 6 months I canceled it. It did not even have enough material to last a single ferry ride.
For Tru   |December.14.2010
I see TC has something stuck in his craw again. I stop paying for the T-H years ago. Why pay for a paper that takes all of 3 minutes to go cover to cover? Too much of the news coming from someone listening to the police scanner or old articles that are cut and paste from some other news source? Articles cut off before the end, stories with a "continued on" only to find that they forgot to add the continued story on the next page, poor journalism, etc etc. Why would I continue to pay for such a poor product? Maybe that's why they are spending so much time trying to improve their ads on
the "online" version? Problem with that is that it still is the same crappy paper and the comments aren't worth reading unless your 12 years old.
Anonymous   |December.14.2010
ANON, you mean go on disability like our police and firefighters do when they suddenly get "hurt" weeks before retirement? That kind of disability?

BTW, I stopped my Times Horrid subscription several years ago and never miss it. Saves me money and aggravation at it's ineptitude.
TRU CITIZEN   |December.13.2010
ANONYMOUS; Oh Yeh, you are another good one. You are going to use the old "capitalism card" are you? I can just imagine how much "capital" you have ever invested. How much time you have been in the real business world, You are the type that really believes that if you complaim enough or quit spending your $25 dollars on a subscription that you are going to make that business improve? Boy do you have a lot to learn. Why don't you take your un-employment check and go on back down to the Towne House, have another beer and help solve the rest of the City's problems, you have done
a great job for the past 3 years that you have been here. Hell, who knows, you may even drink up enought to consider running for Council next November....You already have my vote????? I just wouldn't recommend you advertising in the TH, because there you have to pay up front and I really don't think you have ever done that, but what the heh, you still have your unemployment check for another 13 months and then you can get on disability or file for welfare and then wait out your social security. Isn't that your plan......But that's ok, you can always blame it on capitalism??????
Anonymous   |December.13.2010
Why waste $25 on a piece of crap?

TRU whateveryouare, its called capitalism. If I don't like a product (the Times Horrid) I take my $ elsewhere. If more of us do, maybe the TH will get the message and attempt to improve...

TRU CITIZEN;   |December.13.2010
TH Subscriber and New TH Subscriber: You two are who make me proud to be a Vallejoan. You both are too cheap to pay for a newspaper subscription, that helps support 100+ employees, but are afraid you are going to miss out on who of your neighbors is going into forclosures or find out where you can pick up a distressed piece of property, probably so you can rent to some section 8 tenant. You are the people that make this City what it is????? Have a Happy Holiday, maybe if you check out the empty lots in your neighborhood the day after Christmas, you can find a Xmas tree with tinsel still on it
and for free....You CHEAP IDIOTS.....$25 a year for a daily (365 days newspaper, What would you be doing with your time, if you didn't have free inter-net service, peeking in someone's window, to read the jobs wanted section???

I've been mulling this for a few days ... should I renew my $45.00 a year subscription to the T-H? I've been a subscriber for 20+ years, but the internet has diminished the need to have an actual paper delivered. However, I love thumbing through the rag while drinking my hot Moschetti coffee in the morning. Will I miss anything of value? I think the foreclosure notices aren't online, are they? I like to glance through them once in a while.

Happy Holidays everyone! The Mad Hatter Holiday Festival was a great success! Fun for all and all for fun! The Holiday was made brighter for me last evening when my friends and I had a cocktail at the very packed Havana Sol, and then went next door to the Empress Theatre for a full two and a half hours of holiday cheer via Vallejo-Benicia's Voena and Rita Coolidge concert. Something magical happened at the Empress last night that only happens when a perfomer makes a full conection with the audience and the audience in turn responds to the performer, you cant "make" it happen and
you cant "fake" it happen. The audience, Voena and Rita Coolige and band were fully engaged. This same magical feeling happend last weekend during the Mad Hatter Parade and tree lighting, and as well as this weekend at the open studios and open homes tours. Vallejo is a blaze with energy and promise! May you be fully "engaged" with the holiday season!

Interesting look at Walnut Creek's police issues. This community is more affluent and complacent so they haven't had to grapple with hard issues. They all seem uncomfortable with the new drama. But it looks like they'll be getting more comfortable very quickly if the cops go down this road.

The cops are pissed that the city spends money on "groups and organizations" and recreationand arts when that money should apparently be going to them. Don't they get it? Walnut Creek has money because people want to live there for the services and quality of life. Start cutting back on that and
people leave, revenue goes down further, and there's even less money for cops.

The greed clouds their rational thinking. They'd better be careful or they'll be sliding down the slippery slope like Vallejo!
Living In Oz   |December.10.2010
Good article regarding Walnut Creek's police officers forming their first ever PAC in that city to fight the cuts and furloughs. Police were not cut, but 9 open positions were frozen for at least 2 years. Same arguments from Police in Walnut Creek, with different crime stats and needs. But the same issues.

Does anyone know what is happening at the Herbert House these days? I strolled by there the other day and was surprised that the supposedly empty building had a very full parking lot. The vehicles were all unmarked but a few of them had "Exempt" license plates, or police computers installed. As I walked out of the parking lot onto Mare Island Way, I was accosted by two plain clothed individuals wearing polo shirts indicating membership in some kind of police organization. When I asked what was going one, I was told that the Herbert House "is Vallejo Police Department property",
that the old Chamber of Commerce, and supposed closed-down police sub-station "is an active police facility", and that if I did not cease asking questions and leave immediately I would be arrested. Headquarters for the secret police, right there on the waterfront, who'd have guessed?
Walnut Creek   |December.09.2010
Check out the Contra Costa times today, the affluent City of Walnut Creek has cut 20 million out of their general fund, their new mayor a "fiscal conservative" has waged a battle with Walnut Creek PD who say she does not value police services. Let me tell you, if "tawny" Walnut Creek is cutting back on services, giving furloughs and asking for citizen volunteers, what does that tell you? Orinda, Lafayette,Moraga are all cities with the lowest cost for city services per capita in the entire bay area.
