12/19/10--If you haven't seen this installment of 60 Minutes you should.  It sums up a number of harsh fiscal realities rather succinctly. This goes double for you if you live in Vallejo and triple if you are a public employee.

Not fun stuff to contemplate...but I guess we can do something now...or do something later after the "recovery" goes off the tracks.

Time will tell who among us were the pessimists and who were the optimistic realists. Thanks to Inigo Montoya for posting this one.

This is really a continuation of the 60 Minutes story brought down to the CA state and local level. It is a very important interview and five minutes well spent. I encourage everyone interested in our states fiscal health, and the pension issue, to watch this video:

Do you think that all those big profit public employees (Police & Fire) are paying attention? Seems like they are in a world of dreams thinking that the city is "Hiding Money". The tables have turned now and it is clear to everyone that those who are supposed to protect us are now victimizing us through use of "Golden Hand Cuffs" through pension plans and yearly salary. It is time for us to get Volunteer Fire and Police up and running...hey we will get real great "Service", no excuses and people who have a stake in our community will serve because they live
here. No more getting shot in the back or burned.

Thank you for the post; I had not seen this episode. I liked what the Governor of New Jersey had to say... general public can't believe that public pensions still exist and what he said to the Public Sector unions... work with me on health and pension reform or else in 10 years you won't have these benefits. Governor Brown needs to take the same position, and harder, along with every County Boards of Supervisors and City Councils throughout the state. If there is a major default in municipal bonds, the economic crash could be worse than the last 2 years. Whether described as pessimistic or
realistic, no one is saying the problem does not exist, just the extent of the consequences and when they will hit. The time to address these problems has been for a number of years, but time may have run out.
