Miessner Set for Council Run

3/29/13

By Katy Miessner for City Council -- Press Release

Vallejo, CA – Katy Miessner, financial manager and community advocate, has officially announced her candidacy for Vallejo City Council.

In announcing her decision to run, Katy said “As a City Council member, I will endorse policies that encourage Vallejo’s ongoing citizen-driven recovery. I will advocate greater support for our neighborhoods—with citizen inclusion, transparency and fiscal responsibility. Like so many of our citizens, I’m passionate about Vallejo’s future and I want to continue to facilitate resident involvement in setting city-wide policies, because that’s critical to Vallejo’s resurgence.”

Katy has worked on many City of Vallejo issues and has more than 20 years of financial management, community program and service experience.  As Budget Director of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Katy managed a $25 million budget. She also ran a very successful bid for Solano County Supervisor in 2012 and was only narrowly defeated in the Primary.

I've worked with Katy on many neighborhood and citywide issues -- she's dedicated, intelligent, creative, thinks for herself and has boundless energy and ideas for solving Vallejo's problems.  As my final City Council term ends with the City on its new path towards a healthy recovery, I would feel reassured knowing that Katy will be on the City Council to ensure that Vallejo continues to focus on financial stability, economic recovery and increasing the quality of life in our neighborhoods.,” stated Vallejo City Council Member Stephanie Gomes.

Katy is committed to rebuilding Vallejo, she does her homework on the issues, and she’s passionate about ensuring all Vallejoans benefit from a successful and sustainable future. When choosing a candidate, it doesn’t get any better than that!,” said Vallejo City Councilmember Marti Brown.

Vallejo continues to face many budgetary challenges and needs a leader who has a proven track record in finance and a commitment to stop the wasteful spending that has plagued the City of Vallejo for decades. Katy is that leader.,” stated Barbara Kondylis, retired Supervisor, Solano County Board of Supervisors.

Katy and her husband Jeff Kingman relocated to Vallejo almost 13 years ago, and since then she has been a tireless volunteer in numerous community activities, including her commitment to Vallejo’s innovative Participatory Budgeting as a Steering Committee Member, a District One Director on the Solano County Fair Board and Vice President of the Vallejo Heights Neighborhood Association.  She has also volunteered with the Mira Theater Guild as Treasurer, was a contributing journalist for the Vallejo Independent Bulletin, and is a founding member of Better Vallejo.
