For Whom the Belknap Tolls Salary Survey Finds Vallejo Police and Fire at Top of Heap
10/14/08 By Marc Garman
The city commissioned salary survey has been completed. Andrew Belknap of Management Partners Inc. has concluded that Vallejo Police and Fire personnel "would generally be among the highest" in pay when compared to surrounding cities. The report continues to conclude that "Vallejo benefit levels are typically equivalent or better than those observed in comparison jurisdictions." The Belknap report findings are consistent with the conclusions arrived at by Police Compensation Advocate Ron York in his salary survey for Vallejo Police on his website POLICEPAY.NET. While the report is city sponsored it does seem to be a fairly straightforward and neutral look at public safety compensation in Vallejo. Belknap does sound a cautionary note in his conclusion when he says "Vallejo should be able to remain competitive in retention and recruitment" but warns that this may "erode over time as other agencies have typically been increasing compensation levels on annual basis."
