Some More Thoughts on Proposition 8 By Erika Harrison 11/11/08
I wanted to share my opinion on the passing of Prop. 8. I thank you for respecting all opinions. I voted for Prop. 8. I was not happy with a court deciding to overturn what the voters of California passed in 2000. I am not happy that opponents of Prop. 8 are running back to the courts to try and have last Tuesday's vote overturned. This undermines the voting process. The way I see it, if someone isn't happy with what the voters supported, then they can just run to court and have the voice of the voter ignored. Don't we vote to have our voice heard? Doesn't this move by opponents seek to silence the voice of the voter? How can voters feel confident that they do have a say in our government if someone makes enough noise, and a judge on a bench has a political agenda? For the second time in 8 years, California supported a ban on same sex marriage, and the voice of the voters should stand."Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win. All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step! I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified." 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 |
