Lynch Canyon--Open Space or Power Switching

In a vote on Wednesday January 7, 2009 the Solano County Land Trust voted 6-5 to move forward with plans to put a PG&E power switching facility in Lynch Canyon...an area designated as open space.  The switching facility, if it goes forward, will be placed at the junction of four hiking trails and occupy approximately two acres according to Solano County Sierra Club Executive Board member Jim DeKloe.  The facility will allow for the construction of a power station in Fairfield CA creating much needed revenue as well as jobs in this difficult economy.  But is this a proper use for public open space? Or is it a precedent setting action that will lead to other cities demanding their payola from public open space next? If Fairfield gets theirs, shouldn't all Solano County cities see financial benefit? Where do we draw the line?  Here are a few words from Jim DeKloe on location in Lynch Canyon.
