Fox Sounds Off
Calls Section 809--Binding Arbitration--F****d Up !
5/28/09 By Marc Garman
Those observing last night's Charter Review Committee Meeting were jolted awake by committee chair Mark Fox. After hearing presentations from both union attorney Alan Davis, and labor lawyers from the city on the subject of Binding Arbitration, Fox commented on charter section 809 which covers procedures with regards to binding arbitration. He began by expressing his willingness to consider a form of non-binding arbitration and continued to add that he does not believe that the ballot initiative promoted by the group Committee to Remove Binding Arbitration should be put on the ballot as it stands. Fox then dove into his observations on charter section 809 with comments such as: "Oh my gosh. This charter section is so screwed up!" "It makes no sense!" "Are ya nuts!" "A process that frankly is all f****d up!" This system is whacked!" "It sets up a system that is designed to fail the people." Here is video of his comments--pardon the quality video capture from city website.
