Carissa Carpenter: Eccentric Studio Exec. or Genius of the Flim Flam?
6/14/13 -- Sacramento Bee investigative article takes a closer look at Carissa Carpenter who became known in Vallejo for her alleged efforts to open a movie studio on Mare Island. Carpenter is currently pushing another project in Dixon, CA, but the Sac. Bee article raises serious questions over Carpenter's past track record and legal action taken against her. Carpenter even implies malfeasance by former Vallejo City Manager Phil Batchelor. Good Grief!
Solano 360 Study indicates $17m additional expense
6/11/13 -- A new Fiscal Impact Review commissioned by the group Vallejoans for Responsible Growth (VFRG) and conducted by the firm David Taussig & Associates (DTA) projects an additional $17 million in expense to the City in connection with the Solano 360 Fairgrounds development project recently approved. According to DTA's calculations, which factor in a lower than usual "employee weighing factor" used in the City's original study, "DTA has calculated that the Project would run an annual net loss well into the Project's third decade."
Went to the opener for The Vallejo Admirals this past Saturday. The place was less than packed due to the large number of school graduations around town with approximately 700 fans in the stands.
Found myself sitting with a small cluster of elected and appointed types seated behind home plate. Amazing how rabid those folks can get at a ball game...SCREAMING "Batta batta batta swiiiiing!!!" "You own it pitcher!!" and several other less gracious remarks which would normally earn scorn from the VIB Dialog Monitor! (who merely sat there smirking in between outbursts, beer in hand)
By the end of the ninth, the Vallejo Admirals chopped down their opponents, The Lumberjacks with a score of 16-9.
Great fun and a great day for Vallejo. And well worth the slight hearing loss on my right side!
