A late report of the Board of Supervisors Meeting of 2-26-13

The Board of Supervisors (BOS) final vote regarding the Day Reporting Center (DRC) was a rude awakening in civics 101:
Toto and I had parked the car in the relatively charming downtown district of Fairfield. We blinked in the sunlight--across the street rose up a sort of Emerald City of OZ. Before us lay polished county headquarters that squeaked clean, sparkling new buildings with groomed landscaping and spectacular fountains. County employees dashed about in the sunshine wearing suits and ties, carrying briefcases and cellphones. Nary a drug addict, mental patient off his medication, or menacing thug to be seen. Clearly we're not in Vallejo anymore.
This past Saturday afternoon more than one hundred Vallejo residents resisted the urge to bask in the Spring sunshine and instead attended the “Vallejo Visioning and Pot Luck” held in the old bank building downtown on Georgia St. The purpose of the meeting was to consider citizen priorities and suggestions with regards to the hopefully upcoming General Plan re-write and just facilitate an overall gathering of ideas to improve The City. Vallejo's current General Plan, which informs planning and development was written in 1983 which makes it more or less from the Pre-Cambrian period when giant trilobites swam the Mare Island Straits. Just really old, outdated and problematic...because it leaves us to more or less fake our way through a real plan for development etc.
3/8/13 -- Hey Guys. By now most of you know that Wal-Mart is opening a "Neighborhood Market" store in the old Mervyn's location on Sonoma Blvd.
So, here's your chance to sound off...love it, hate it...union busting China patronizing good job killing retail megalith...or just what we need at discount prices? Great job opportunities for Vallejo...or rape of the proletariat?
Here's a great little video tribute from songwriter Jessica Frech with real pictures of Wal-Mart shoppers to help you reach an informed opinion!
3/7/13 -- Vallejo fire and safety personnel have had a busy week. Here is video from the freon compressor leak and explosion at the Island Pacific Supermarket earlier today. There were no injuries; however, hazmat crews were called in and market remained closed for several hours.
